In order to promote yourself successfully though, you’ll have to know the difference between articulating your value and bragging. As a kid, you might have learned that modesty is a virtue, but being too modest will get you nowhere in the business world. The chances of someone discovering your greatness on their own are pretty low, so you’ll have to explain and demonstrate your value to people in order to gain their notice. Keep a list of your on-the-job accomplishments handy so you can always express your commercial value to your employers or to those in your network. You can communicate your accomplishments to people in a simple three-part statement: explain briefly what you did, what the results were, and what the value gained was. Stick to the facts and people will recognize your true value!
